When I read it, still today, I'm like, I don't think that is the, that's not something we would give anyone advice for.
Like if someone is married and at 30, they decide they're going to give their life to Christ and go into the ministry.
And they're like, yeah, I really feel like my wife is holding me back from what I'm supposed to do with God.
We would say, no, you should stick with her, you know, and stick it out.
And Paul kind of said that too, didn't he, in 1 Corinthians 7?
Right, yeah.
So he kind of missed on that.
And I think that— That was a big miss.
That was a big miss.
And I think that part of that, the things he kind of talks about in that framework of giving your all to Christ, leaving everything behind, is like a good belief system and one that we all believe.
But in practicality, there's exceptions where he kind of took it to the extreme.
And I feel like that modern pastors or teachers, especially kind of in our group, we tend to be very conservative in like who we point to to trust and read about.
And I think these early church fathers and Augustine being one of them is one of those like, we will believe what he says and we'll dwell on that, but we don't like to kind of like prop up the man, you know?
And I think that's a, for us,
The positive of that is that we don't hear about—we're careful not to teach about people that would lead us astray.
But I think the danger of that is that we miss so much theology and life and ways that we could understand God because we're a little too careful, a little too cautious on—
on that front.
