It was like 330 yards, so not extremely far, but, I mean, I was shooting sitting, you know, off of shooting sticks, leaning into my backpack and whatnot.

I had to wait for the elk to move to a point where his vitals were clear because I could see him clearly, but there was not a clear shooting angle or shooting window on his vitals.

And he finally moved and stopped and I was ready to go and I shot him.

But that was not a challenging shot in terms of distance, but it was that I had to wait so long and just wait for that exact spot and then thread the needle.

I mean, it definitely can.

Now, I mean, full disclosure, I've never shot in any of those formally myself.

I've shot at things that will simulate it and this and that, but it's not the same as the actual competition.

All of these competitions, though, just by virtue of how they operate, there's some gamesmanship involved.

You know, you're doing this because that's what the rules are and I'm doing this because it's going to give me that advantage and whatnot.

But that said, though, I mean, the whole idea with an NRL hunter competition is to you take your actual hunting rifle to field and you're shooting in situations that will approximate what it's like shooting an animal.

And the competition and the stress of that is not going to amp you up probably to the same degree actually shooting at an animal with, but it's getting you closer to there than it would be you just shooting at a piece of steel at the range.

And so I think that is absolutely a great way, if it's something that is accessible to you, to do that.

And everyone that I know that does that says it has helped them.
