No, of course.

I'm still from Galway after all, so it's kind of far from all that.

It was rare, you know.

So childhood holidays for me were walking down to Salt Hill for a 99 or going to see grandparents in Connemara or Ballinasloe.

Very, very typical.

Oh, yeah.

So when I was 16, I had this really bizarre opportunity to go to school in Japan for a summer.

I won a scholarship to be a youth ambassador for Ireland.

So I flew over to myself to a tiny town with, what, 40,000, 50,000 people in it.

I think most of the pupils with me had never seen someone with blue eyes before.

And that was just a really fascinating immersion in a different culture.

So I think the wanderlust stemmed from that.

That was pre-internet and everything, 1999.

So I had no idea what I was in for.

But luckily now, as a travel journalist, I still get some freebies to incredible places I could never afford.

And Antarctica is one of those.

Well, it's certainly cold.

You need gloves.

But, you know, you go there in their summer.

So what would be minus 40 degree temperatures in winter go up to about zero or two degrees in their summer.
