But how do you answer the question of, won't the free market just take care of it?
And that may not even be the right question you get, but I just feel on both sides of the aisle, we're in this hyper-populous moment.
I want it, I want it now, and I don't want to pay for it.
Why do we have to invest in this?
How do you answer to stakeholders and policymakers on the Hill that,
yes, you're not going to get something out of this investment and you're not going to get it tomorrow.
You're going to get it in two decades or even to get the thing you want, you need a tool that measures it and no one's going to pay for that.
How do you answer that question?
Are the research universities just keeping the bench warm?
And then we think of the private sector coming in and picking the right player at the right time to take further, put on the field, score a goal.
And what the research universities are enabling is that we are constantly ready, trying to make sure that we can tackle your mRNA example.
