Today we're joined by Maria Thacker Goth.
She's the president and CEO of Georgia Life Sciences.

Before we get into our conversation with Maria, and this will certainly be something we touch on with her, we want to start with a piece of news that landed just last week.
The Department of Health and Human Services rolled out something called Operation Trial Blazer.
It's a department wide roadmap, including the FDA, NIH, NCI, NCATS, and ARPAH, all organizations that are critical to drug discovery and development.
and the initiative is aimed at solving one problem.
Too much early clinical research has moved offshore, and we want it back here in the United States.
The announcement comes at a moment where Congress and the administration are trying to tackle how to most effectively manage and maintain US biotech leadership in the context of an increasingly globally competitive environment.
The document released by HHS for Operation Trial Blazor lays out some pretty compelling facts.
In 2021, China's global share of phase one trials surpassed the US.
And in 2024, the total number of clinical trials surpassed the US and represented almost 40% of global trials.
It also calls out Australia, a much friendlier country than China from an economic adversary standpoint that has had enormous success recruiting early stage trials.
