I think if he came along thirty years later, uh he would have gone viral all the time and his recruiting would have probably boomed and all those things.
And that is something that I do think we see Lane take away from some of Monty Kiffin as like the head coach.
Like you if you might have noticed for you know at Ole Miss and they've kind of taken it with them to LSU, like he's got a basketball hoop, you know, on the sideline and they're you know dunking during games.
Uh they you know would have a fire.
Fire extinguisher that they would start spraying after big plays.
Like Lane has kind of his own kind of goofy stuff that he does as well.
And it certainly felt like to me that that's kind of like the Monty Kiffin of it.
Of like you could just imagine Monty would have all kinds of you know wild things, and uh I can remember like the championship belts that everybody was doing.
He would have had something even funnier and more interesting.
Um so Monty was just an all-time great in a lot of ways, and someone that you know, guys who played for
for him, people who coach with him forty, fifty years later, just still speak with such love and admiration for the man.
Lane did not have a lot of personal relationships with people.
Um, and I think sometimes uh I sometimes compare Lane to being a chess player and I think he's a brilliant, you know, chess player.
That's how sometimes I think he sees the football field.
And so I think sometimes players might feel like they're just pieces on the board, you know, rather than someone he has a real human connection with.
It it's something he has struggled with, I think, throughout his career.
I mean, Bobby, as you know, reads.
The book, like some of those like early USC days when he was an assistant, like the way the players talked about him, uh, not exactly the most favorable uh opinions of the guy, but he eventually wins them over because of his brilliance and offensive genius and all that kind of stuff.
So I think guys like Derrick Henry, um, who you know grew up a certain kind of way, they they want to be respected, they want to be talked to a certain kind of way.
