As a person who was on the redistricting committee, at least initially, and who sat through these sham hearings, when they first came, so first of all, when the governor set the initial first special session agenda, there was no redistricting on it.
which I later found out was because Republicans weren't trying to hear it because they were concerned about diluting their power and being vulnerable the next time they went up for election.
After, at some point, when Trump sends this little DOJ threatening letter saying coalition districts are unconstitutional, if you don't change this stuff, then the DOJ is going to sue you.
I think this is a perfect example
of why Greg Abbott does not need to be, I'm sorry, Greg Abbott and Paxton does not need to be the Attorney General because he literally didn't know how to interpret the law, which the Attorney General was supposed to be able to do.
Right.
And Lord, let's pray that don't happen and vote like our lives depend on it because it does.
But initially at the redistricting committee hearings, they were saying, this is not racial.
And they did not want to do it.
Then at some point when Trump said, I better change these these black and brown coalition districts, then all of a sudden the racism started like like like overtly because at first it was covert.
And so there's something that I think.
And this is the the opinion on page two.
At the bottom, it says in the letter, the DOJ threatened legal actions if Texas didn't immediately dismantle and redraw these districts, a threat based entirely on their racial makeup.
It said, notably, the DOJ letter targeted only majority non-white districts.
Any mention of majority white Democratic districts, which the DOJ presumably would have targeted also, actually underscores the point that this was purely a target of Black and brown people.
They left alone the majority white Democrat districts.
They were like, you know what?
We know we can shit on black and brown people.
Ain't nobody going to say nothing.
Ain't nobody going to pay attention.
