um so that right there um where the red light is that's actually where the shooting took place so to give you some perspective right where you're looking if you look to the let's see 11 o'clock 10 o'clock 11 o'clock from that position you would see the white house so we're about two blocks
So this is 17th Street where we're at, and the White House is at 16 and H. We're at 17 and I, to give you some perspective.
So really, we're very, very close to the White House.
There's a metro stop right there at that intersection.
It's where the shooting took place.
As the investigation started earlier, they had us basically roped off from that intersection, and then they expanded it one block, and then they expanded it two blocks.
And we were asking them, what's going on?
Why are you pushing us back, pushing us back?
And finally, we got the word that they were expanding their search area.
Initially, they said to find a second suspect.
And then we got word that it was to find more evidence.
So there was never any clarity made on that.
But at the press briefing, they said it was a lone gunman.
So it might have just been expanding the search for evidence purposes.
Michael probably has some better perspective on why they would expand the search area like that.

So as it happened, there was passersby who didn't yet know something had happened.
And they were just like you said, they were on their way home from work.
