My parents didn't come from much.

There was never a huge onus in my house for achievement or they weren't pushing us.

We lived in D.C.

We had an open door policy.

My house was the house that if you were in trouble, you came to talk to my dad.

If you needed a bed, you came to my mom.

They were foster parents.

They took in foster kids.

The alchemy of how they did it was so extraordinary.

And I have to tell you, without a doubt, I am the failure of the family.

I've done the least by far.

And what they are most proud of is how close we are.

And, you know, my parents really put up with a lot with me.

They really did.

I don't know.

I mean, honestly, it's a good question.

You know, as a young man, I know I saw my older brother get picked on a good bit.

And I know that I sort of made a choice that that was never going to happen to me.

And I know that I was really sort of fell into sort of a natural protector role for my little brother.

And then I think it just kind of got carried away.
