But anyone who can listen to that would come to the conclusion that he's essentially validating accuracy if he's saying that.

I think he's got a stronger grip on the party than most commentators right now are willing to admit.

He's certainly lost a lot of altitude when it comes to independent voters and he's very unpopular generally.

Most of his problems in the Senate are down to a small number of senators that he's either defeated and so they're hanging around until they leave or have retired after falling out with Trump.

So, yes, he does have some issues in the Senate, but it's sort of less than meets the eye, I think.
