If a player isn't thinking constantly, where's the ideal space that I have to work out that I go to?
It's just, right, I go to the man.
That's a lot easier to drill.
And so my suspicion is that rather than taking players from a Bundesliga who have been drilled in that man-oriented pressing and trying to instill in them this other way of doing things, he's trying to work out
either a composite or probably more likely a man-oriented way of doing things.
I think it probably will be different to what he's done at Liverpool.
I think it will be a simpler version.
Whether he can do it or not, there's very little evidence.
We'll find out.
And I think that's the fascination, that we're seeing all these big names going into national coaching roles, and yet who are the two most successful national coaches of the last four years?
Well, the Lucio Lafuente, he was not a big-name coach in any sense.
And Lionel Scaloni, he was not a big-name coach in any sense.
They're people who've come through the federations, who know the system and have known the players from a very young age.
So it's very glamorous and exciting that we've got Zidane and we've got Xavi and we've got Jurgen Klopp.
but it's not necessarily the most effective way of doing things.
Well, I think it has calmed down.
I think there was that sense after the semi-final that he made a terrible mess of that game, which I think he has now in a limited way acknowledged.
the fact that England did win the third place game, I mean, it's such a bizarre, freakish game, but the fact they did win it and the fact they, yeah, they scored six and you could take postures from that for what they're worth in the third place game.
I think that did help sort of, you know, pour oil on troubled waters.
