It did.

They get away with that.

And then losing Rice clearly made a huge difference.

I don't think it was just that they lost control in midfield.

It was that Bellingham was doing a really valuable job

holding the ball up.

It was almost like he was the target man and Kane was coming deep of him.

And I think that interaction between the two has worked really well.

They've both got six goals in the tournament, so clearly it's working really well.

But without Bellingham to hold the ball up, he just kept coming straight back.

And then, I think you've got to give Tuchel credit, he sorts it out.

And by the end, I think by extra time, England were actually controlling the game pretty comfortably.

And I've been slightly surprised by how negative a lot of the reaction's been.

I thought the Holland's push was really clear people go oh yeah but Konca he pushed whoever it was after the ball hit the bar no he's challenging for the ball and it's not just shoving somebody with your arms out I think there is a difference there

there has been this slightly strange narrative since the following Balogun decision that is everything sort of conditioned to just favour the big teams and the fact that the four seeds are in the semi-finals probably is not a good thing in that regard it's great in the sense of these are notionally the four best teams in the world and in the semi-finals and this should be great

But there is that element of disquiet, I think, about that.

But you look at that game, and if it were being fixed, why is Norway's first goal given?

Why are England not given the penalty?

There were more ways it could have gone England's way.

I think the decisions in the end were... They were all explicable, and I think they probably fell 50-50-ish.
