I think a lot of people looked at this speech last week and said this is Trump laying the groundwork for interfering with the midterms in some way, because we know that it's expected that Republicans will lose the House, maybe even the Senate, and that is gonna really, really hurt Trump.
I would say, looking at this speech, yes, that is something you could reasonably say.
But in my mind, the audience he was focused on was not the millions of Americans watching at home, and it wasn't the Chinese Communist Party, and it wasn't the government in Venezuela who he also accused of doing things.
It was a couple of dozen Republican senators.
That's who he was focused on.
This primetime address to the whole country was focused at a couple of dozen.
and Republican senators who he wants to pass the Save America Act.
We've talked about this a couple of times.
Yeah, he brought it up near the end.
And don't be fooled by the name.
It's been such a big issue for the Republican Party.
And it's led to this kind of all-out war between Trump and Republicans.
Before we explain what the act is, it's just been this kind of political bomb that's gone off in that party because he is desperate for the party to pass this legislation.
And they are not doing it.
They're not doing it because they don't think they can get the numbers, and they're not.
doing it because a lot of Republican senators saying, We don't think we need this, we don't see this as a priority.
We want to focus on things we think voters care about and that, you know, will affect the midterm elections.
Yeah, I mean, it's one of the ironies of this whole speech is that everything he addressed in that speech about foreign interference, the Save America Act, hasn't got anything to do with that.
The Save America Act is basically means you have to present ID when you vote, and you also have to have s proof of citizenship when you register to vote, and you have to do that in person.
And that's what a lot of people are concerned about because it's thought that millions of Americans don't have easy access to proof of citizenship.
