who takes him home.
And this was based on a real instance of an evening in the summer of 1904 when Joyce got incredibly drunk and was essentially rescued and taken home by a friend of his father's who happened to be Jewish, like Leopold Bloom.
But what actually happened on that night is Joyce assaulted a woman on her own who was walking home.
And it turned out that there was a man in her company who had stepped away for a few moments who turned up and beat the shit out of Joyce.
And Joyce in his mind, he always, you know, he sees this as the inciting incident for what's going to be his masterpiece, Ulysses.
So a lot of what he seems to go through with Nora, like he loves working himself up into these obsessive jealousies.
If he's gone to Ireland on a trip to see his family, he'll start writing her these letters about...

And it's completely self-indulgent and completely absorbed in himself and a way of turning himself on.
