Good morning, everyone, and Nowruz Peruz, which is Happy Peruz, an important Persian holiday that we are honored to celebrate today.
It's an honor to join everyone here in recognizing Nowruz, a celebration that has marked the arrival of spring and the start of a new year for more than 3,000 years, meaning new day today.
Nowruz is a powerful reminder of renewal, hope, and the possibility that comes with a fresh beginning.
Here in Austin, we're proud to celebrate alongside our Iranian-American and Persian-speaking communities whose traditions and contributions make our city stronger and more vibrant.
Nowruz is not only a time to gather with family and honor cultural heritage, but also a moment to reflect on the values of peace, harmony, and mutual respect.
I want to especially recognize the Austin Iranian Professional Association, or AIPA, for their continued work to preserve and share Iranian and Persian culture through education, cultural programming, and community-building efforts here in our city.
A beautiful half-scene display is available for the public through March 31st.
The half-scene table is a central tradition of Nauru's, featuring seven symbolic items that each begin with the Persian letter S.
representing values like renewal, health, prosperity, love, and patience.
It's a powerful reflection of the meaning behind this holiday, and I encourage everyone to stop by, take a moment with it, and learn more about the rich traditions it represents.
The half-scene table is on display in the City Hall atrium.
Celebrations like Nehru's bring us closer together, deepen our understanding of one another, and remind us of the diversity that makes Austin so special.
On behalf of the city of Austin, I'm proud to help proclaim Nehru's and wish everyone a joyful and prosperous new year.
