Recently, We Outside ATX were one of the two women-led run groups that helped me open the new Wishbone Bridge in District 3.

Also, I first learned about We Outside ATX after a about a three mile run that I was coming back and I was heaving because I could barely breathe because while other folks may be gazelles, this is a Mack truck and it takes a lot for me to get up to speed.

I was coming across the bridge entering where they have a park named after my great uncle, the Roy Velasquez Senior Complex.

And there was this amazing energy of folks that were just, I mean, living it up right outside of the fields.

And I was like, what are folks doing at 8 a.m.

in the morning outside with that loud music?

I was pumped and they welcomed me in.

It was an entire an entire vibe.

And I was so excited to connect with them.

And we immediately connected that day.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my hermana, the incredible Mercedes Collins, founder of We Outside ATX, who saw the desire and need for community like this and made it happen.

Now more than ever, folks depend on a safe, uplifting community, and groups like We Outside ATX are leading the way.

Be it known that whereas we outside ATX was founded in response to lack of welcoming, culturally affirming spaces for black residents in Austin and the surrounding area, creating opportunities to gather, move, and experience belonging in outdoor and wellness spaces where they have historically been underrepresented.

And whereas through weekly runs, outdoor recreations, wellness programming, and culturally grounded community events,

We Outside ATX provides consistent low-cost and no-cost opportunities for movement, mental wellness, and social connecting, removing common barriers to participation.

And whereas by activating parks and public spaces and centering community culture and well-being, We Outside ATX contributes to a more equitable, connected, and inclusive Austin where residents have greater access to health, belonging, and access

active community centered lifestyles and where black presence, joy and belonging are visible and celebrated.

And whereas we outside ATX collaborates with local organizations, businesses and community leaders to expand access to wellness and outdoor recreation while uplifting black led initiatives, vendors and professionals across Austin.

And whereas we outside ATX has experienced rapid and organic growth with hundreds of community members consistently showing up, reflecting a strong and ongoing demand for accessible spaces rooted in connection, wellness and cultural belonging.
