Good morning, Austin.

I am Councilmember Jose Velasquez proudly representing District 3, and I have the distinct honor and privilege to be joined by AISD and many of our dedicated school volunteers to celebrate and recognize Austin ISD Volunteer Program Appreciation Day.

Volunteers are essential to our schools, to our communities, and to the growth and development of our kiddos.

They create connections, support our teachers and staff, and help foster a strong school community.

Our schools are better off because of their shared commitment to our students' well-being, education, and success.

And I am in this building because of Austin ISD and the amazing people like you.

Thank you for your service, not only to our schools but to our city.

Your time is precious, it is valued, and it makes a world of difference to our kids and families.

Be it known that whereas the Austin Independent School District Volunteer Program serves a vital bridge between the community and the classroom, fostering a culture of support, mentorship, and educational excellence in schools throughout the district, and whereas last year,

18,600 dedicated volunteers contributed their time and talents from tutoring and mentoring to chaperoning, campus beautification and administrative support, directly enhancing the educational environment and expanding the resources available to campuses.

And whereas the Austin ISD volunteer program facilitates community engagement in public education, providing essential mentorship and supplemental support that strengthen the partnership between our local community and the schools they serve.

Now, therefore, I, Councilmember Jose Velasquez, on behalf of the entire dais and Mayor Kirk Watson of the City of Austin, do hereby proclaim

I just wanted to suggest that next time we have presentations by PD where they have to come in and demonstrate uses of force and tasers, that they get to pick somebody from the dais to come and volunteer and do that.
