And so how are we going to define driest?
Is it over a
a set of terrain, is it a over a set of r region?
Is it uh the driest place in one spot?
But the Atacama Desert in Chile is widely considered to be the driest place on Earth.
Some areas within the Atacama have received no rainfall for centuries.
This extreme aridity is due to due to a combination of factors, including its location between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, which creates a rain shadow effect.
But a mighty rain shadow effect, I I may say, and the influence of the cold Humboldt current offshore to the west that cools the air and prevents cloud formations.

And also I encourage you to look at a couple of photographs that you might find online of the Atacama Desert.

Maybe even drier than the Atacama may be a place you might not think of.
But Antarctica Antarctica.
Perhaps again, not as a place you'd associate with with dryness because of the ice sheet there, but since cold air carries less moisture than warmer air, helping to make the continent so dry in terms of rain and snowfall, it is the case.
Snow does fall on Antarctica with several meters a year on the coastal islands.
Inland, far from sources of moisture, snowfall can be as little as a few centimeters a year, making it really the driest continent overall.
When think about the Atacama in South America, there are very wet places in South America, many places in Brazil, Paraguay.
Colombia, etcetera.
