And I think it can only help you.
Maybe it's simple.
To me, the lesson from Gary is that you are playing better golf if you're being yourself.
And it resonated with me.
I talked to Patrick Rogers earlier in the year, and I really wanted to ask him...
what advice he would give to some of the best amateur golfers in the world coming out.
Because Rodgers, you could look at his career a couple different ways, but I think the prevailing narrative is one of the best college golfers of the 21st century, and his career hasn't panned out the way that he would have hoped.
That might be a little harsh, but I think it's pretty fair.
And he's a really smart, mindful guy.
So I was curious what his perspective was.
And basically what he said is,
When he came out on tour, he was trying to emulate other golfers.
And seeing, oh, Rory does this, Dustin Johnson does this.
I'm not as good at that.
I need to get better in this area.
And his biggest revelation over the last 10 years is that by understanding your golf DNA, to use a term that you invoked, Andy, that is how you play your best golf and remove expectations.
And I think there's something connected to Gary Woodland talking about PTSD that...
If you're trying to be somebody else, you're not going to play your best golf.
And it's a difficult headspace, I'm sure, for young amateur golfers to get into when they turn pro.
But I feel like there's a profound lesson there, not just from Gary, but from anecdotally other golfers.
