You want to have some tolerance for fraud so that you're not blocking genuine customers.
The third phase, we had a hackathon in sort of April last year, 2025, and we tried an approach that didn't really work.
I was championing the approach and I had a lot of confidence in it.
The idea was that we would give points to certain fraudulent behaviors.
For example, short lead time check-in is a higher fraud risk.
We said, okay, you'll get 10 points if your check-in lead time is less than three days after you book.
And you'll get 20 points, fraud points, if it's same night check-in.
And then maybe you get a certain number of points for a certain number of failed cards and things like that.
And the goal was that we would build up our score based on a constellation of fraudy behaviors on our end, send that to Stripe, combine that with Radar's network risk score for
the card.
So Radar being Stripe's software?
Stripe's fraud tool.
Yeah.
Stripe Radar is basically signals on their end that give you the perceived risk from their side of the card based on its behavior all throughout the Stripe network and a set of tooling that allows you to set up rules that can block or allow or force 3DS, 3D secure, which is sort of a step up authentication method on certain payments.
Okay.
So you had both sides at this point.
Yeah, we had both sides.
We've had both sides from the very beginning.
And the change in this phase three was that we were trying to make our score from our side much more sophisticated and less sort of A or B and more flexible.
And I had high hopes in that approach.
