I knew she was devoted, but I didn't actually know what her beliefs were.
And I saw a lot of people online being like, what denomination is she?
Is she Mormon?
Is she Catholic?
Is she evangelical?
That doesn't need to be necessarily spelled out for me.
And maybe that was an intentional decision on Burke's part.
It felt...
really flimsy for like something that is ostensibly the like guiding principle of her life.
Even at Harvard, she kind of made herself out to be this renegade who was flying in the face of her roommates who were focused on misogyny and women's oppression and all of that.
But I never really got much more than the basics.
It's her nature.
It's interesting in that it's one of the few times that we see Natalie in an environment that is not her home turf or an environment that she has literally manufactured to her own liking.
And herself.
I mean, she really punishes herself.
Yeah.
It's impossible for me to disentangle my feelings about how Natalie and Caleb fall into gendered roles in the family without taking into account how Natalie's like, oh, my husband's really dumb and I'm really smart.
And I don't think she's that smart.
I was not like, you know, you're not Machiavelli in a nap dress.
Like, OK, you're going to like sort of certainly think she is.
