Craving is this urge
something like I want.
It's a need that that really has this edginess to it, this drive that says, do this now.
the system may have kind of evolved as a way to help us find where food is.
So on a on a very simple level
we have to remember where to get food.
And before there were, you know, restaurants and grocery stores, our brains had to have mechanisms to learn to remember where food was.
So you can imagine there's certain conditions that need to be met.
One is that there needs to be a trigger.
So let's say that we see some food.
That's the trigger, then the behavior.
So we eat the food.
And the reward from a neurobiologic standpoint comes in the form generally of dopamine.
So if there's a high caloric density in the food
then our stomach basically sends a signal off to our brain.
through this dopamine spritz that says, Hey, you know, remember what you ate and where you found it.
These habits get set up based on this pathway that we think of as reward based learning.
Another way to think of that is uh development of context dependent memory.
We learn the context in which we did some behavior.
It's really tapping into the same reward based learning system.
