And I think a lot of people are saying this, that pay raise that is there may not be going as far as it once did since inflation is raising costs on everything from gas to groceries. matched

Last year, workers who remained at their job got an average 5.6% pay increase, and that was significantly lower than the salary increases we saw for those who switched jobs. matched

But then this year, that raise for people who stayed put has bumped up. matched

It's now around like 5.9% in terms of pay. matched

I talked to some people who said that they got the timing wrong, that if they had been in a place where they could have switched jobs or if the offer had been more attractive for other reasons, they would have been able to take advantage of that premium in salary. matched

But others say they value the job stability, that especially now when there's so many fears of a recession, fears of layoffs, matched

People value staying put and knowing the familiar things about their current job. matched

I talk to a lot of people who are feeling sort of jittery right now. matched

They're hearing all this news of layoffs in particular industries, or they're worried about what could happen with the effects of a potential recession. matched

So changing jobs right now is not top of mind for them. matched

But when it comes to relationships, huge financial moves in either direction can shake couples in much the same way. matched

Because in both cases, they are exposing weaknesses in the marriage or sensitive spots in the marriage that otherwise might have been overlooked or ignored. matched
