Right now you can see that here with the forecast maintaining that expectation.
So this is all just unfavorable for tropical development.
And again, it doesn't really come as a surprise because typically we're looking a little closer to home throughout the month of June for the best odds of tropical activity.
Throughout this time of year, we look to the Gulf, we look to portions of the Caribbean, but mainly the Gulf.
for that highest chance of something spurring up.
Then into July we start to expand that a little bit.
We kind of look to the eastern Caribbean or the eastern seaboard of the United States as well as portions of the Gulf.
So for the meantime, and this is very true if looking at sea surface temperatures as well as again,
shear, Sahara dust, all of that in the mix.
We're looking closer to home for maybe something to pop up on the tropics map.
Of course, again, expectation is that things stay quiet.
But if something were to try to spur up, the best odds of something spurring up would be closer to home.
Sea surface temperatures
definitely plenty warm in the mid and upper 80s borderline 90s in portions of the Bahamas and out towards the Keys where we've been in the upper 80s we're definitely inching our way towards hitting that 90 degree mark along Florida's coastline also talking about
El Nino because El Nino is officially here has been now for a couple weeks I'd say where the Climate Prediction Center has been acknowledging that and of course the projection is all the talk where now we have confirmed El Nino is in play and how that then affects the tropics where this is
more and more of a certainty that we're looking at a likely below average season in terms of tropical activity, especially then when you look into towards the peak of hurricane season, a really strong, quite literally a very strong El Nino pattern and an El Nino projection there with upwards of almost two degrees warmer than average sea surface temperatures in that main area that we monitor El Nino conditions.
So here's a look at the 2026 hurricane name list.
Of course, hopefully we're going to keep things quiet for as long as we can.
