Great question.
And it's something that's often not understood by people.
So superannuation on its own is not an investment.
It's actually a structure or more so a tax structure.
investing is what you do inside superannuation.
So you can invest in exactly the same thing inside a super fund or in your personal name.
The actual investment is going to be the ETFs or the shares.
Perhaps it's a property portfolio that you have.
Superannuation is essentially just the structure that you're holding those investments in.
Look, I think it depends on what your level of experience is.
When you're putting a lot of money into super, it is really good to be proactive and be considering what it's invested in.
Going to the level of picking and choosing individual stocks, I don't think that that would be the way that you would want to put all of it right from the beginning.
If you're a really experienced investor, then perhaps, yeah, you do want to have a little bit more control and pick and choose what you're investing in.

So if he's with a standard industry fund and he's invested in an index fund or at a life cycles type product, he will be investing in a range of different kind of ETFs inside that fund that is invested in international markets, emerging markets, the Australian ASX2
If he's in a more conservative fund, he may also have exposure to fixed interest or bonds in there as well.
So there will definitely be a lot of similarity between his personal portfolio and what's going on inside super.
Yeah.
Your exact portfolio that you've got, the international markets, you've got the ASX and you've got Emerging, depending on the platform that you have your super with, you could invest in the exact same thing inside super.
It's just in a different platform and has a different tax consequence to how it will be taxed in your personal name.
