Yeah.
I don't want to turn this into like a little mini lecture on types of therapy.
Go for it.
But it's very, very briefly it sort of conceptualises a person as having lots of different parts of themselves.
Some are very well known under these protective parts that you bring out into the world and some are lesser known.
Some are deep and below the surface and you might go your whole life without really making much contact with them.
So I tend to kind of look at it like it can be a system collapse.
So they might have
gone swimmingly through their whole life and a protective part might have kept them safe by being, for example, a people pleaser.
You know, I'll do everything for everyone and that kind of keeps me feeling good and I don't have to experience all this underlying sadness that's there.
But then something changes in their life, like they get a chronic illness or maybe a relationship breaks down or they have children.
Oh, my gosh, having kids will 1,000% break any kind of structure anybody's built around their sadness.
And all these things that used to protect them, I know like they can't do them anymore.
And sometimes when the system collapses like that, that's when you see people in a depression.
I used to have this great supervisor and she just said, we're not heads on sticks, Julie.
And I was like, what does she mean by that?
What she meant was our brains and our bodies are deeply connected.
So yeah, absolutely.
When people become depressed, their body can start to feel different.
