We have to make sure that our organizing is –
in the vision and version of collectivism like we all have to stop doing the thing when there was the toy toy uh target boycott right i haven't been back to target because the organizers amazing black women they said don't do it so we have to make sure there's some collectivism and telling poor kids in particular not to take access to opportunities that could actually lift their family out of poverty i don't think that's the solution
So there has to be a level of urgency.
And what I do love about this idea and what you just articulated is true.
There are probably some top prospects who, if they say they're no longer playing in the South, some things will change.
I remember at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement after George Floyd was lynched, one of the top prospects for a school in Mississippi said that he would not play as long as the Confederate flag was a part of the state flag.
And other people like Stephen A. Smith said, well, he know it's Mississippi.
Mississippi is Mississippi.
And the next day, Mississippi actually changed their state flag.
because they knew the consequences for that financially.
And so I think the mindset is in the right place.
There probably are five or 10 prospects who are black African-American who we should be able to wrap our arms around, who say, don't go play, go to Howard, go to some other places, and we're going to be able to wrap our arms around you as elected officials, as celebrities, as media personalities to make sure you're actually taken care of and your family's taken care of, that I think could put a dent in this conversation and force people in the South to see things differently.
But to your point, there has to be places where we apply pressure.
Organizing, mobilizing, and activating political power in this moment in time is one of the ways that we apply pressure.
Running for office, supporting candidates who are running for office, donating your $1, your $2, your $3 is a part of what you can do right now.
And not spending your money in places where people do not value your humanity is deeply important.
Find those restaurants, those businesses, those companies who love black people, who love everybody and who aren't trying to exploit us in order that we might be a part of this plantation economy to invest your resources in or just save it.
Stop spending the money, period.
No, in this moment in time, that is the question we have to ask ourselves.
