That's kind of our deep dive for today, actually, because things are nice and quiet in the tropics. voice-verified

And one of the reasons for that is this big plume of Saharan dust that we have been tracking. voice-verified

And we typically see this every year in the early portion of the hurricane season. voice-verified

And it's one of the reasons it's kind of a slow start to the season over what we call the main development region. voice-verified

Now, we have this graphic up showing the African West African monsoon. voice-verified

where we see the trade winds come together. voice-verified

And once it gets out of the open waters of the Atlantic, we call that the ITCZ. voice-verified

That's the intertropical convergence zone where those winds come together and you see these parade of tropical waves. voice-verified

But this time of the year, the easterly flow, those trade winds voice-verified

are helping to bring in Saharan dust off of the African continent over the main development region. voice-verified

It keeps our water temperatures a little bit cooler over the main development region. voice-verified

It also serves to really increase the amount of shear in the atmosphere as far as the El Nino is concerned that is developing as well. voice-verified
