I'm not an expert.
If I could find this using public records and phone calls, I think the experts could find this.
It took a little time of talking to people, but eventually someone brought us to this mine.
And they're using heavy equipment and high-pressure hoses to basically tear up the ground.
They're kind of like destroying the place.
Turn the dirt into mud, and then they sift the sand out of the mud, and then they separate the sand from the gold by using mercury.
All of it is illegal.
And when we talked to the people there, we reminded them, we said, like, who's in charge here?
Who runs this place?
They said, well, we have to pay the Clan del Golfo for access here.
We pay them every month.
This is supposed to be the world's cleanest, most reputable, most traceable gold.
The Royal Canadian Mint has the highest certification for its refinery.
And they have all of these rules around traceability and ethical sourcing and responsible sourcing.
And there's a whole long list of rules, but something's not working because they shouldn't be getting gold from a drug cartel.
Well, that's what people say.
But what I would say, the gold goes from the cartel mine to a small middleman, to the exporter in Colombia, to the importer in Texas, to the Royal Canadian Mint, and to another refiner, and to the U.S.
Mint.
