All the nerds and also all the people who would be like affected by these policies.
And in this speech, Tony Burke announced that the government is going to crack down on immigration in Australia.
Specifically, I'm gonna rapid fire this.
They basically want to increase efforts to remove people who are overstaying their visas.
They want to tighten rules for international students, stop them bringing their families to Australia, and they want to limit the stays of backpackers.
He also identified this thing called visa hopping as an issue.
It's it's where
People effectively jump from visa to visa to try and stay here as long as possible when like there would actually be no reasonable grounds for them to stay here.
And part of that means cracking down on what he calls rogue migration agents.
These are people who like knowingly support migrants and like take money from them and support them in getting visas when they really like they know those visas don't have any merit.
They know there's no grounds for them.
They're just trying to like make money off these people.
Yes.
Right?
Especially with the student visas.
So yes, so One Nation also came out recently with a their own migration policy and promises of what they would bring in if they were elected at the next federal election.
Unsurprisingly much more extreme.
But that's really important context as to why I think we're seeing the government so focused on migration.
