And I was able to be robust.

But also I had Di.

You know, I had my sidekick.

I had mates, you know.

And so I didn't really understand for a long time –

why women started comedy and then stopped.

And now I do.

Because I was lucky that I was 26 when I started doing comedy.

Men didn't scare me.

I looked at men who treated me like shit and there were them.

I looked at them more like that was on them.

You know, if like a guy made fun of me on stage, which they constantly did because I was a good comic and they didn't like it.

If the MC made fun of me on stage and said gross things about me, which they did, I would go, well, you look like the fuckwit.

Like those people out there don't think that because I've just been on doing a really good set and they like me.

And so for you to come on and slag me off, that just makes you look like a fuckwit, mate.

And so I was able to do that, but

A lot of women weren't, you know, and a lot of women went away and never came back because of that.

And that's something that we've worked really hard to change.

Doing a lot of shit on my own, you know, because Manda left when I was still at school.

And so I came to Auckland on my own without mum and dad.
