I am ruined.

It's a lot on the body and soul.

It's a lot.

And the adrenaline of it all and what you're holding and what you're summoning and what you're asking to receive each night, it's a lot.

And I don't take it lightly.

And then to kind of switch your focus from that world, which is...

a very different world to the world of the novelist where you have to immerse yourself so totally and completely in a world that is not this world but has to be as full and as involving and as real as this world.

It was insane.

I'd be doing like 15, 16 hours at my desk writing and I'd come out of my studio where I was working in this writing room and I couldn't tell which world I was in, whether I was in Edgecliff or whether I was in Heather Green where my studio is and I was just... I kind of almost lost it but...

I'm so grateful for what happened and what came out of it and how hard I worked and I think it's the right thing.

I'm so proud of what happened with this novel, like how hard the whole process has been feels right.

It's the right kind of labour.

You know, I didn't know if I had another one in me and then I really feel like this, I put everything into it, you know, so I can stand behind it with real dignity and no matter what happens,

Like I've really been in the ring for this one.

So, and I really did my best.

And I think that that, as an artist making work, that's the only thing that can unsettle me is when work comes out before it's ready or something.

Or I feel some, for some reason I had my, I was swayed, but I don't feel that about this.

So I can just stand behind it.

And now I just have to, they're just characters I care about so much.

So I just hope they're all right out there.
