So flirting on the phone and dressing up for lunch was really fun for Anne-Marie, though.
And the first few times that he came over, it was actually to play Trivial Pursuit.
It wasn't anything romantic.
But Tom, it seems like he was playing this long game.
He flaunted his wealth to her.
He showered her with all of these gifts.
And Anne-Marie, who spent her whole life living on less than she needed, having jobs that didn't even really cover all of her bills, she was pretty charmed by the gifts, which makes sense.
And then in January of 1994, several months after they first met, Tom took Anne-Marie out to celebrate her 20th birthday at a fancy Philadelphia restaurant.
He swept her off her feet, kept her wine glass full, and then took her back to her place.
And from that point on, it was just an affair that they were having.

But Kim said that Anne-Marie was also conflicted about this because Anne-Marie is a good person and she didn't want to break up a family.
She dumped Tom repeatedly, but he kept just doing things to get her back.
He was the only person that she fully confided in about her eating disorder aside from the doctors that she was seeing.
And Kim said that it was actually a relief for Anne-Marie to talk openly and she didn't want to lose that connection in her life.
Meanwhile, Tom was doing whatever he could to just keep her under his thumb.
And eventually, Kim said that the relationship got a lot more controlling.
