On Sunday, July 17th, the jury announced their verdict.
Tom Capano was guilty as charged.
Two months later, on March 16th, 1999, nearly three years after Anne Marie went missing, the judge sentenced Tom to death.
Wow.
Because it puts you in the mindset of the person having to do that to someone.
Exactly.
You know, I've covered on Heart Sides Pounding a couple cases in other countries, and it's actually not that uncommon.
Like, they do this in Korea, I think even still, where they go reenact the crime scene.
So, yeah, the like investigators will go there.
I covered this one story where like a car was maybe pushed off the side of a cliff and like the investigators go and they're like, OK, it would have been this hard to push the car off the cliff.
It would have had to go at this angle.
Like, is that even possible?
And then they they'll like pretend to hack people up and stuff.
And it is that's really, really upsetting and traumatic to the investigators that have to do it.
But I think it also just.
It's maybe one of those exercises where it just really puts things in perspective.
Like you were saying, like, now they see, like, how depraved you would have had to be to put someone in that cooler.
After several rounds of appeals, the death sentence was overturned in 2006 and it was converted to life in prison.
And then on September 19th, 2011, Tom Capano was found dead in his prison cell more than 15 years after his crime.
He had gained a significant amount of weight by binge eating during his time in prison.
