Flash forward just a couple weeks later, I was now home from camp, and I can't describe it, but the moment I left, I had this weird feeling of something dark looming over me.

I would wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

I'm a deep sleeper.

I never wake up.

I had sleep paralysis most nights, another thing that I had never experienced prior to leaving camp.

I attributed this to stress of starting high school soon and just from being tired from a long and exciting summer.

However, when unpacking my bags, deep in the pocket of my backpack was the rock that I had put into my pocket from the island.

I pulled it out and immediately had this feeling of dread.

I called my best friends from camp and explained to them that I forgot and I needed to hand it back to our director somehow.

They agreed that it was weird that I couldn't sleep anymore, and they urged me to get rid of it.

I lived near a beach, so the next day, with my friends on FaceTime for moral support, I took the rock and I threw it into the ocean.

I immediately felt so much better, like this weight had been lifted off of my chest.

We all agreed that whether or not it was haunted or involved a cult ritual or whatever, it was better that I did not have this in my possession anymore.

A few days after that, though, I got home from school and I went into my room to start on my homework, and to my horror, sitting on my desk was the same rock.

I called my friends freaking out and I showed them.

We could not believe it.

It was the exact same rock.

I still have no explanation for this, but my symptoms never came back.

In the summers that followed, that camping trip became somewhat of a legend with everyone wanting to hear more about our eyewitness accounts of what actually happened.

We never returned to that same island again, but we were urged to not retell that story anymore.
