Um, as I am on the planning commission, I suspect that our city manager was attempting to improve the situation, but missed the idea of the meetings that we have in the dinners.
It's a form of communication that we have no other opportunity to do.
Um, having the minutes is a wonderful idea, and it, uh,
You know, it gives you a sense of what the meetings were about, but it tends to filter them through the eyes of staff without any way to directly communicate the passion or the interest of what we as commissioners have spoken about during the meeting.
And the ability to talk to you during the dinners is a way to short circuit the communication filter.
and get ideas and attitudes expressed directly i really really do hope that you will reinstate those uh the recognition is wonderful everybody loves recognition but that's not the point of what we're doing we're trying to improve the city we're trying to make things better for all residents and one way to do that is to get the attitudes and opinions of the residents
more directly communicated to the council rather than interpreted through a few lines in a minute.

I really just wanted to make sure you realize that we like the dinners, not for the dinners.
Pizza is not the greatest dinner, but it was an opportunity to get our opinions and our attitudes conveyed directly.

One of the things I liked about the Lunar New Year Festival was that they didn't just have food trucks.
Yeah, which is what we've done, but that was also—we shared costs with Great America, and there are issues around standing up Mission College for that type of activation, but it's something that should be the role of the council.
