newspaper Le Matin, they basically have this really rousing editorial on their front page, essentially saying, this is a a technology that has been held back for too long.
It's been in private hands, it's been raced on circular tracks like like racehorses.
We would never kind of insult a brilliant technology like the train in this way.
And we think the car can be like the train.
From peaking to Paris, who can kind of live up to this challenge, who can drive their cars, therefore showing that this technology is more than it is being used for at the moment.
At the time it's quite a sort of a well known travel trope.
People have travelled this route before, you know, using combinations of railway or sled or or or horse-drawn carriage or horse or, you know, what have you.
And part of it is the alliteration.
But part of it is that Paris and and France is kind of considered the epicenter of the Western world, particularly at that time, in the view of the of the French.
But also, um, Peking, now Beijing, is considered
Kind of the epicenter of the East.
And so to the 19th century mind and the early 20th century mind, you have this really nice kind of journey across the continents between two capitals that are really redolent of particular ideas about the world, um, and particularly Western ideas about the world.
So the heart of the East to the heart of the West.
So the biggest kind of block of this journey goes through what was then the Russian Empire, which kind of goes all the way from, you know, what is now Mongolia and then was kind of loosely part of the the the Chinese Empire or definitely sort of sphere of Chinese influence, all the way to Germany.
Now, of course, you have, you know, lots of, you know, the Russian Empire is is no more, and you're kind of going through parts of what is today.
Day, you know, Poland and and stuff like that.
But at the time, most of the journey, three quarters of the journey perhaps, is through the Russian Empire.
So it goes China, Mongolia, Russian Empire, and then Germany, a little bit of Belgium, and then France.
People think they are mad and it's just greeted with literal howls of of scorn and ridicule and a lot of a lot of disdain as well.
