And meanwhile, she's sort of a bit untethered from the world.
She keeps on losing things and losing track of things.
And you wonder what that means.
And there's something about reading details like that that draws you into the story and even the warmth of...
Ernie's family who are you know really lovely characters and then there are these little moments that sort of strike a peculiar note that take you outside of the scene as well so in that one they brought along ice cream for dessert and she's lost it like the fact she keeps losing track of things had she brought it did Ernesto even know there was ice cream
Well, we're not sure.
And that's part of what you're saying about our relationship to this narrator, because at times I found myself getting exasperated by her.
And then I thought, of course, reading isn't necessarily about likability or feeling that, you know, you're sharing the experience with the narrator.
But it really put me in a sort of point of tension with her, trying to work out what I made of her as the voice of the book.
But I think what we can say, Cassie, is that we're then meeting another character across another week and that character is Lacey, the woman who Heloise has been longing for.
And so we get a different perspective on the world, even a different sort of style of writing and energy.
I actually quite liked the energy in the second half of the book when we're taking into another place and another woman's perspective and desires and dreams and crises.
