One of the things I found fascinating about this book was the way that the writing itself shifted depending on whose perspective we were close to.
And there are two sections in the book that focus on the mother that are written almost in a stream of consciousness section, six or seven pages with no paragraph breaks, getting that sort of frantic sense of this woman who's trying to hold it all together.
And I found those shifts in writing style really powerful.
How did that work for you, Michael?
Oh, beautiful.
And you don't even think about it as a translation until those moments when you see a little asterisk in the text and we get a note about a particular Arabic word or a term in French that makes you think about language and what it means.
And it's done with quite a graceful touch.
And from Morocco and France, we're returning now to Australia, to Tasmania in particular, with the latest from novelist, poet and memoirist Chris Neen.

And then late last year, there was Garrett Carr's The Boy from the Sea, Charlotte McConaughey's Wild Dark Shore.

And this one, it's set on a windswept remote island off the coast of Tasmania.
It has a lighthouse that's now automated, but it's now a weather station.
a research island, and a woman named Miranda, who's a marine scientist, and her husband Richard are heading there as this story opens.
So who are these people, Rowena, and why are they off to this island?
And I understand there was a real ad for a six-month residency on a remote island that Chris Neen saw and both thought, oh my goodness, who would do that?
But also what a great fictional setting.
Fictional setting, yeah.
