But the minute we stop naming them, our narrative ceases.
And so he's sort of interested in that aspect of it, the philosophical aspect of it.
It's a good book.
And if I could just slip in one other, I'm two thirds of the way through, I think rereading Careful He Might Hear You, some of Locke Elliot's 1960s book.
I know it's in the ether at the moment, great Australian novels and the great Australian books.
But anybody who's reading for this purpose, remember this great 1963 novel of Sydney, of childhood and of aunts, monstrous and otherwise, careful he might hear you.
I thought I'd read it, but rereading it,
most of it's fresh and new, and gee, it's good.
What a book about the character of P.S., which is, I assume, semi-autobiographical or wholly autobiographical from somewhere, is a remarkable little boy, and what he witnesses and what he observes and what he overhears, in spite of their admonition to not let him hear, what he hears the aunts talking about is, yes, it's a book.
And it's one of the great 20th century novels from Australia, I'd suggest.
