He was their father.
He was the person that I laughed with and cried with over them.
And he was the one I wanted and loved.
I had to do a lot of work to manage the guilt of feeling that, of remembering that I felt that afterwards with the psychologist.
It was an incredibly lonely place to be because as much as I was surrounded by people and family and friends,
and community, he was the only one that could possibly be feeling what I was feeling.
I loved my husband.
I absolutely did.
I thought he was my soulmate and I thought we were going to grow all together and live happily ever after.
I had loved him and probably in a way still did at that point.
So I was very afraid of how I would react if I was to meet him.
And I remember the buildup to that going, he's in hospital, what do I bring?
So I ended up packing a bag, toiletries, socks, boxers, books.
And I left it at the gate when I was going through.
If he ever saw them, fine.
If he didn't, it didn't matter to me.
But I had done what I felt was the right thing to do at the time.
If Sanj was capable and could do this, were they capable of hurting their own children?
And to think that somebody would worry about that, or that you had a mother worrying about leaving their own children with their father, it's beyond me that you would have to think about that.
That was the impact.
