So, you know, we want to use the words that the author wrote and, you know, what was heavily edited to make sure that it was the most pristine version.

But also for accessibility reasons.

Listeners shouldn't have a different experience than readers of the print edition.

So the only time we make those adjustments is when reading it exactly as written

will mean it doesn't make sense for the listener.

Like in the instance of, you know, things being crossed out on a list.

If we were just to repeat the items on the list, no one would know they'd been, you know, crossed out.

So we have a really extensive editing process that we go through in the backend.

So once we're, you know, in studio recording, once we've got the book cast and all those little changes figured out and the book is cast, we're in the studio recording.

We do three hour recording sessions.

And from that, we usually just get one finished hour of audio book.

So in the sessions, we have the narrator, the director, and an engineer.

And so all of them are listening for those mistakes, those kinds of misreads and things so that we can go back and rerecord them right away.

So it's quite a time consuming process to record a book.

And then after it's recorded, we send all the files to an audio editor and they piece it together into, you know, that sort of tighter finished product.

They cut out all the excess stuff from our three hours of recording to make sure that we're getting just those like

clean takes of the sentence that are read properly.

And some things still, of course, have always slipped through at that point or a mistake was made with giving a character the wrong voice or something like that.

So after that process is done, we have another quality control person.

Their job is called the proofer.
