I was a kid in the eighties, so I don't know if kids do this now.

Maybe they all just have phones and don't need to try to find a place to leave secret messages or figure out smoke signals, but I was obsessed with this stuff.

I begged for a set of walkie-talkies for my birthday.

And I'm sure I had some at some point, but I don't remember them working well enough to feel satisfied with them.

In fact, I saw some advertised for sale recently and I had them in my cart in a minute.

Like I am buying these and giving one to my brother, just like we wanted as kids.

Till I remembered that my brother lives seven hundred miles away from me.

A bit too far for Instagram ad walkie talkies.

Oh, and we can just text each other.

I recommend the idea of half birthday parties.

This is something my friend Tisha started during lockdown.

We were in a pod, there were about six of us, and she just started announcing whose half birthday was next and telling us to show up for dinner and cake.

She's a great cook too, and with six people, we suddenly had twelve birthday parties for the year.

And it became something we all looked forward to.

Orange cake and lemon cake are still the most popular choices.

In the next story, we played a bit with the idea of spontaneity and took the kids to the drive in.

I love spontaneity, though I know it's not for everybody.

Good reminder by the way, almost nothing is for everybody.
