So it was a spiritual act and a sharing of soul that created the body of Christ, which is the church.

And so this is why they do it.

But then this is very useful to them.

And so they do it in other contexts.

So if you sign a contract, an important contract, you have to end it with a kiss on the mouth.

And if the kiss isn't there, then people worry that the contract hasn't really finalised.

Or if you're at King's and you're negotiating a peace treaty, then you kiss each other on the mouth.

So basically all sorts of interesting kinds of contracts of more or less importance.

And if you are doing over long distances, you can send a person to do your proxy kiss.

And so they go and kiss the person on your behalf.

It kind of becomes part of how contracts get done.

And in fact, in some countries in Europe, it's part of the law, right?

So you can actually see in legislation that you do X, Y and Z and then you kiss.

And so it's actually something that's required, it's a legal requirement to finalize certain kinds of contracts.

Right.

So that's two things.

Yeah, so I did a bit of, first of all, I tried to read everything that had ever been written about The Kiss by other historians.

And actually, that wasn't as hard as you could imagine, because there's some really gorgeous books on The Kiss, but actually there's not huge amounts of them.

So it was a kind of a reasonable sized project.

And then I went looking for art and literature and other kinds of sources.
