One of the brands that I looked at a lot in this story is called AKA.

And those are very high-end luxury hotels.

And they're in really fancy neighborhoods.

Like they have a location right by the White House.

And they have a location right near Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

And that's expensive.

I talked to a man who's been living in the one in Beverly Hills for more than a year.

And he pays $12,000 a month for a one bedroom.

So initially that just seemed like an astronomical amount, but I actually went out and I asked real estate agents who know that area really well, what it might cost to rent a similar apartment and then to pay the utilities and the deposits.

And I also asked an interior designer what it would cost to get the furniture that would make it look something like what the AKA offers.

And actually when I tallied it all up,

you know, it was a lot.

I mean, it was less than he's paying.

But if you calculated in the cost and maybe the hassle of getting the furniture, it was actually somewhat competitive.

I mean, this is, you know, for people who are living in that high-end niche, it wasn't astronomically more than you might spend in a more traditional rental situation.

Yeah, that was interesting.

That is something that needs to be carefully checked because each state and some cities within a state has different rules.

There were locations where you could be exempt from the hotel taxes if you stayed for 30 days or more, but you had to alert the hotel that you were doing so.

So there were some little codicils to it.

But yes, if you are a long stay guest at a hotel, you have a bunch of ways to whittle the price down.
