So there's a number of reasons why I told my story as well.
Like teachers need to know that they are the light and that what they do matters.
actually changed his lives.
And I go and talk to teachers every week now.
I do that as a job most of the time now.
And one of the things, I go through a series of lessons for them about how we can do better for poor kids.
But one of the things I always say is, if you need an outcome, let it be me.
Because sometimes you may never see the impact of what you're doing.
Sometimes you might not see that voice, that song that you've placed in a child's head is the thing that...
is keeping them alive.
Like it may not got them the Leaving Cert or the, you know, the Junior Cert or for me, what Mr. Pickering did, he kept me alive.
Like in the darkest moment of my life, when I was 16, I was in a homeless hostel.
I was on my own with a baby.
No one visited me.
Not one family member, not one boyfriend.
I was in this horrible, dark hovel.
No one visited me.
And in the darkest moments where I really didn't want to live,
the thought, Mr Pickering thinks you're somebody, kept me alive.
And I think teachers don't actually always get enough recognition for the fact that sometimes they're the only light in a child's life.
