When I studied psychology, one of the most important things that I learned in psychology is families that sit around the dinner table together have better outcomes.
We learn all these mad facts, right?
So in my home, I always insisted that we sit around the table because I thought, well, that's what Fikra and Shifra and all the good people do.
So we sat around the table eating dinner every day.
But I had this band and I couldn't even do that.
My beautiful son once said to me, ma'am, are you going to be okay?
And that pushed me to go to therapy.
And I talk about this in the book.
So I was like, I cannot keep chasing.
There's no answer in being smaller.
So I went to therapy.
It's exhausting and you never get there.
And I went to therapy and it was the first time I was actually honest, Brendan.
And I stopped searching for the answer, the destination.
She asked me to stop and I did.
I did the best I could.
And so I'm in this therapy and I'm healing and I start getting the sense of the little girl I was.
She gives me this doll that represents myself that sits next to my bed.
And I'm like, I want to be that kid again.
I want to feel my body's free again.
