Geordie didn't want to stay the entire night.
She ended up going home, but she left a couple of things behind.
So she figured she'd swing by the lake early that morning to grab her stuff, catch up with her friend Maddie about how the night had gone.
But as she pulled into the site, the first thing Geordie noticed was how empty it was.
Every single tent from the night before was packed up and gone, even though it was still pretty early in the morning.
All of the tents, except for one, Geordie recognized it immediately.
It was Maddie's tent, sitting there in an empty campsite, unzipped.
She walked over and she peered inside.
Maddie's whole area was a mess.
Her sleeping bag and blankets had been pushed to the side.
Her earrings and her rings were scattered in the grass outside the tent.
Now, this was jewelry that Maddie wore all the time.
It was jewelry that was really sentimental to her.
And Maddie herself was now nowhere to be seen.
But Geordie noticed that Maddie's truck was still there, parked in the same spot it was when Geordie was leaving the night before, and the doors were locked.
Now this didn't feel right to Geordie, but she wasn't necessarily panicking.
She told herself that there had to be a reasonable explanation for this.
Maybe Maddie had gotten a ride home with some of the other partiers.
Jordy collected her stuff and then she took off and drove to work.
That evening, another party materialized at Hogsback Lake, a much bigger one.
