The doors were locked.
The phone and the keys, at least to the investigators, suggested that Maddie intended to come back.
Cell phone records showed that Maddie's phone had last pinged the local tower at around 8 a.m.
on May 28th.
Before that, there had been no activity on the phone since a brief phone call with a friend at around 12:30 in the morning.
That was a seven and a half hour window from roughly 12:30 a.m.
to 8 a.m., which anything could have happened.
And investigators had almost nothing to fill it with.
There was no calls, no texts, there's no movement data on the phone.
And worse yet, no witnesses came forward saying that they saw her in that window of time.
In 2016, the RCMP would publicly state that they believed foul play was involved.
But at this stage of the investigation, in the weeks and the months after her disappearance,
They had no one to point to.
But they did not think that Maddie had some sort of accident.
