And I didn't quite realise it till right at the end of the day and I was like, Oh my gosh, I really should probably post about this and say something and yeah, so that was just a really nice coincidence, yeah.
I think there was the the accidents that can happen at sea and the way that the crew are sometimes treated and the lack of investigation that goes on and and that, you know, people just think if they can throw enough money at a problem it c it will go away and often it does.
That was quite shocking to read about and instances where that had happened.
There was a story I I read of a a deck hand who'd gone overboard at night and they they did a
a a you know, a really basic search and and then the the owner wanted the yacht to move on, so they moved on.
Um obviously they got the police involved, but the yacht y you know, the yacht itself sailed off into the sunset, which just seems really har you know, harsh.
Oh gosh, dealing with dejection, you really just have to grow quite a thick skin and you have to be quite bloody minded and just go, Okay, well I'm writing this because this is what I enjoy most of the time and I don't know how to do much else.
And I've got an a story that is begging to be told and not think too much about the the result after you've written it and just try and write the best book you can each time.
It's like always having homework though.
There's always that pressure of a deadline and I give myself daily deadlines and it's a lovely sense of achievement when you hit that deadline, but when you m don't hit it it's like, oh, it's really frustrating.
You just have to roll with it and realise that there are gonna be highs and lows.
Nobody has an absolute plain sailing, you know, brilliant career.
I think even Leanne Moriarty once said that she did a reading once and one person came turned up.
So in her early career.
I think you also have to try and get some balance and realise that not everybody's gonna like your work and not take that personally.
The the best way to do that is to go onto Goodreads and look up a book that you love and you think is one of the best books ever written, and some people will hate it and say awful things about it, and that helps give you some perspective.
And then, yeah, try not to be too bothered by reviews.
That as your writer, as a writer, that's not actually your business.
Your business is writing, it's not worrying too much about people who don't like.
It's hoping that some people will appreciate it and the intention behind it and and find it illuminating, amusing, you know, passes the time.
